Melissa Fields-Koerper - Head of School

Mrs. Koerper joined BASIS in 2016 in the central office, first working in the Academics Division and then quickly joining the School Management team where she spent most of the last year assisting school leadership. Prior to beginning her career with BASIS, Mrs. Koerper worked as an Education Program Manager for the Arizona State Charter Board, contracted with Arizona Department of Education as a capacity building coach for schools across Arizona, and spent 10 years teaching and in school leadership in the charter school setting. Ms. Koerper holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s of Science in Leadership. She has also served as an elected member of the School Site Council at Lincoln Elementary, Prescott, AZ, sat on the Task Force for SB 1197 regarding special education, was a governing board member for a local literacy non-profit, and has volunteered in many community organizations and events, such as Girl Scouts and Big Brother Big Sisters. On a more personal note, Mrs. Koerper has 4 children, 2 of whom are BASIS students. She loves the outdoors and being active, yoga, travel, reading, movies and new adventures and learning!

Steven Moinester - Head of Operations

Prior to BASIS, Steve spent 18 years in the field of education, including 10 years in coordination/management positions. His experience spans primary through university education. Recently, he launched and managed a successful international primary Saturday school program in Kobe, Japan.

Steve has an MA in Asian Studies, MBA from UCLA, and is TESOL certified. In his free time, he enjoys a healthy lifestyle with lots of outdoor activities such as running, hiking, cycling, tennis and walking his beagle.

Originally from North Carolina, Ms. Hagopian earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Chemistry from Duke University. While at Duke University, Ms. Hagopian taught chemistry to K-12 students through a program called Duke Chemistry Outreach. She also conducted research in Environmental Toxicology, specifically studying the health effects of exposure to triphenyl phosphate from common household products. Ms. Hagopian, who is a classically trained ballet dancer, served as the director of an arts-focused after-school program in North Carolina, where she provided tutoring in Math and English and ran the ballet and creative movement classes for children aged three to twelve. Ms. Hagopian is extremely excited to join BASIS Peoria Primary. Entering her 4th year in a BASIS Curriculum school, Ms. Hagopian was formerly a Science Teacher and Dean of Students at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, followed by her role as the Director of Student Affairs at BASIS Independent Fremont. Ms. Hagopian has helped students succeed both in and out of the classroom, and she believes that with the right tools, any student can succeed academically! She loves the energy that primary-aged students bring to the classroom, and as the leader of student support, she is excited to guide them as they reach their highest potential.

Susan Duncan - Director of Academic Programs

Mrs. Duncan is thrilled to be joining the BASIS family this year and is looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growth! She comes to us with 14 years of experience. Mrs. Duncan taught for 10 years in 2nd and 4th grades before becoming an instructional coach. She is nationally board certified in Literacy-Reading and Language Arts and served as the administrator for both afterschool and summer school programs. She started her career and her Bachelors at the University of Arizona. Mrs. Duncan moved to Texas to attend the University of North Texas State completing her Bachelors in Business Computer Information Systems. She then landed a position at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center on the Mississippi-Louisiana border. She returned to Arizona to work at Phelps Dodge, where she worked on computer systems to support various mines, the El Paso Refinery, an Executive Information System, and eventually managing a group of programmers. As a parent volunteer, she realized education was where she wanted to be and attended Arizona State University obtaining her Postbacclaureate in Elementary Education.
